We took the tour of the Eagle Ranch pistachio farm in Alamogordo, NM. It's a family run business, and they package the pistachios as Heart of Desert Pistachios. The tour was excellent. We got to see rows and rows of trees, the sorters, roasters, shellers, salt and/or seasoning machines, packers, etc. Apparently, pistachios are desert plants, which are actually shrubs. Eagle Ranch prunes them into trees for the shaking machines at picking time. Wish we could see that, but that won't be until September. They also grow grapes and had a pretty decent Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

Never knew pastachios grey on trees, learned something new today, Always thought they were a root plant. I noticed you don't see any red ones anymore.... Great photos.
